Complete Twill Flap Set
Sanhican 2 Lodge
[Ed Dworak writes the following about 2F1 misprints.]
The three patches in the third row are "perfect" thread or needle breaks of the 2F1. In one the "Sanhican WWW" is missing, in one the "WWW" and in one the "arrow." They look like perfectly normal issues and in each case I had a bundle of 25 of each at one time.
I wrote an article for the website oaimages.com about three years ago. They are highly collectable by certain people especially when they look like a different issue. Every time you order a run of patches you'll get a few errors where a thread or needle breaks but to have a complete name or part of the design left out is unusual. I believe I called them perfect misprints.
[Dr. Larry Gering writes the following about 2F1 flaps.]
One day, I spread 127 2F1 flaps out on kitchen table and started looking at which were rough, which were smooth, which had fat letters and which had thin letters and I got combinations of each. Bottom line is that they made these for a dozen years (1957-1969), with multiple orders and there are a whole bunch of discernable differences providing (and this is the point) you can compare them side by side.
[Dr. Larry Gering writes the following about 2F4 flaps.]
Here's my story about the 2F4 - the 75th anniversary flap that looks similar to the 2F1. The Lodge decided to recognize the 75th anniversary with a big event at Yards Creek. Jim McKeever (another former Chief) was the ranger at YCSR. The registration fee for the event included the Pilgrimage weekend (food, etc) and one (just ONE) 2F4 flap per person. As a dues-paid member, I sent in my money to get my patch, but I was living in Louisiana and wouldn't be able to attend. One father showed up at registration that Friday night and wanted to pick up two packets. He explained that his son was home sick; big mistake because they then refused to give him his son's packet ( because "he has to be here to earn the flap!"). Screaming event began. McKeever quietly took my packet out of box and up to his house. Next day, the Lodge advisor demanded that he return the packet because I wasn't there either. Jimmy refused. This created a huge problem at Pilgrimage. Later that week, after Council Executive (not Jack Brown) said for Lodge to decide it themselves, the left-over 2F4 flaps were burned in the council headquarters parking lot by smirking lodge officers/advisors. I got my flap; sick kid never did get his, at least officially. Still a very difficult flap to get. A couple of years ago, I bought a few more 2F1's on eBay and found a 2F4 mixed in with the 2F1s; so I now have two.
[Randall Holden adds the following comment about the 75th Anniversary flaps.]
The year was 1994, and the price was $25 per flap. Both ceremonies were great (at Pahaquarra and at the YCSR Vigil site). I remember the flack about the F4s and the fact that seven went missing. |
